Flight Sergeant Martin lost his life in the crash of 11 SFTS's Cessna Crane (#8987) aircraft, 3 miles north-west of Rhein, Saskatchewan. Leading Aircraftman Benjamin Milo Andrus and Leading Aircraftman James Gordon McCowan also perished in the aircraft accident.
